Hey everyone, don't know if you saw my post on the homepage about the earthquake in Haiti and how you can help by donating to the Red Cross, but it does come direct from the guys. The estimated death toll is now around 100,000 people and 3 million have been displaced. Thousands of people are still trapped in the rubble and medical supplies are desperately needed. Please help if you can - http://www.redcross.ca/

It really is awful. Apparently about 3 days after a natural disaster, people that
are still alive but trapped/missing, and not found, are expected to die from
infection/dehydration. It's very unfortunate.
My family's probably gonna donate some money. :P

I heard that until now 200 000 people have died.. and as Lauren said, a lot of other people will die from infections/dehydration because they still have no clean water there... It's horrible... =(

Today in our newspaper again wrote about Haiti...
"People sleeping on the streets and rescue workers are fighting for time. Ongoing cases are reported looting, which also touched the warehouses of the World Food Program at the United Nations. Some gangs armed with machetes walking. Police in connection with the looting was arrested fifty people... Escaped convicts from prison, missing them to four thousand...
Officials estimate the death toll to 100 maybe 200 thousand. So far, 50
000 were found the bodies. About 300 thousand people are homeless...."

Teri, wow, those images are graphic, aswell as devestating. I heard on the news that they sent a "medical ship" over there, but its going to take way more than that to help, but I guess you have to start somewhere.

I heard that the medical ship can't fit into the harbor or something because of damage. I hope they get it there soon cause people really need the help. :(

It is truly one of the worst world disaster... it is like Kathrina in 2005, tsunami in 2004...disasters no one can stop or predict on time...Thanks God that there are still good news about people who are found alive. Like this pregnant nurse who was so buried but ahe and her child are ok now... But the gangs with machetes, violence is so sad and scary... I wish I could help more than just give money... I truly appreciate the work of doctors and rescuers... but the help will have to last for many months if the island are to survive this through... my country is not a rich one but our rescuers are there, red cross and other organizations are collecting money to help...like on the whole world... so maybe the situation will be better, but for now I am scared when I hear news...
Good to know that the band and you here care, the world would be horrible place if we weren't touched by it...

Me too, I'm also scared hearing news, 'cause you never know what's coming next. Germany sent a lot of red cross helpers, rescuers and doctors to Haiti, just like the rest of the world. They are all sending food, but the planes can't land because the airport is too destroyed and crowded, and also if they CAN land, it's hard to get the food and medecine to the city... I hope the situation will get better. But I wish we could do more than just donate money, but it something to start with... I hope to hear better news about it and that it'll get better soon...

Has anyone donated?...I wonder if the money actually goes to the relief funds. Everytime this kind of stuff happen, I always wonder if I should donate or not. I probably will donate though, if it doesn't go to the relief effort...well, I tried atleast. Well, I wouldn't know if it went or not unless I start seeing results, and that might not happen for quite a while. :-\

Our school is going to put on a talent show and silent auction to raise money for this. Natural disasters are never good, but Haiti was a truly horrible place for this to happen -- the country wasn't doing too well to begin with.

I personally donated money to the Red Cross last week. Even if you don't have a lot of money to spare (I don't), but want to help, you can donate just a few bucks and that will help someone. The point is you really don't need a lot of money to make an impact and if you really do want to help don't let the fact that you don't have much to give be an excuse to give nothing. Look at Barack Obama's hugely successful presidential campaign, he raised hundreds of millions of dollars by asking people for $5 donations! Also, if you donate more than $10 to any registered charity (make sure you know who you're donating to and what their deal is) you'll receive a tax credit for it, which means you're actually spending LESS than what you're sending.
